The detection of total anti‑HBc is indicative of a laboratory diagnosis for HBV infection. Further HBV serological marker testing is required to define the specific disease state. The immunoassay's performance has not been established for the monitoring of HBV disease or therapy.

 

Electrochemiluminescence-immunoassay (ECLIA)

For diagnostic purposes, the results should always be assessed in conjunction with the patient’s medical history, clinical examination and other findings. Current methods for the detection of antibodies to HBc may not detect all infected individuals. A non-reactive test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to HBV.
