Hepatitis B Core Antibodies (IgM)

Expected Turnaround

24 hours

The presence of anti‑HBc IgM, in conjunction with other laboratory results and clinical information, is indicative of acute or recent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The immunoassay's performance has not been established for the monitoring of HBV disease or therapy.

Results obtained with the Elecsys Anti‑HBc IgM immunoassay may not be used interchangeably with values obtained with different manufacturers’ assay methods.

Electrochemiluminescence-immunoassay (ECLIA)

Current methods for the detection of IgM antibodies to hepatitis B core (HBc) antigen may not detect all infected individuals. A non‑reactive test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to HBV. Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. > 5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration.
