Testing Methods

We were the first in Kansas City to offer the ThinPrep Pap Test, which was FDA approved in 1996.   Ninety-nine percent of all Pap Smears diagnosed at MAWD Pathology Group are ThinPrep Pap Tests.

In March 2005, MAWD Pathology Group implemented computer-assisted ThinPrep screening with the ThinPrep Imaging System.  The Imager is a device that uses computer imaging technology to assist in primary cervical cancer screening of ThinPrep Pap Test slides.  After computer imaging, every slide is reviewed by a cytotechnologist.

MAWD also performs screening and reflex testing for HPV High Risk types using the FDA-approved Cervista HPV test from Hologic, and offers GC/Chlamydia testing from the ThinPrep vial.

For the convenience of our clients, we have incorporated these additional test results into the standard ThinPrep Pap test report, resulting in one easy-to-read report.
